Atarangi Muru is a founding member of Maori Healers. For over fifteen years she has taken her elders’ healing wisdom to the world. She began traveling with co-founder Hohepa Delamare (Papa Joe) tohunga in 2000.
Atarangi was raised in the small, remove coastal community of Ahipara. She is affiliated to Ngati Kuri, Te Aupouri and Te Rarawa (tribes). Her name translates as ata (dawn) rangi (light). Atarangi, the name, was gifted to her by the Heihei whanau of Te Tii, and it belonged to their Kuia. The meaning given is, Atarangi – The realisation of one’s visions. Had her family given her a pet name, the Heihei whanau would have taken her name back. Today she helps people to return to the dawning light that is at the core of their cells and reignite the memory of wellness and joy.
Her passion for the Maori healing arts was first ignited by her elders.
“My healing training started at an early age as it did for many others in those times.”
Being taught at the knees of her many Kuia (Elder women) and Koroua (Elder men), is the traditional method. Today she passes these healing arts forward to her children, her grandchildren and her extended international family, both biological and spiritual.
Atarangi’s healing inheritance includes teachers like;
